MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR WEDNESDAY: INJURIES DERAIL BIG FIGHTS

We covered the reduction of the huge upcoming heavyweight co-main occasion for UFC Fight Night 76 yesterday with the announcement that Stipe Miocic has been made to back out of his struggle against Ben Rothwell, but there’s more to the story and also some other fight announcements/injuries to discuss now. UFC is apparently searching for a brief notice replacement for Miocic to step in and combat Rothwell in Dublin, and a few notable names set their names to the ring. The first was Matt Mitrione, that was fighting very nicely against Rothwell earlier this season before diving right into a takedown attempt that got him filed instantly via guillotine choke. Mitrione wouldn’t probably be the first option due to his quick defeat, but he has a case considering his desire for redemption. The biggest issue with Mitrione right now is the simple fact he’s currently booked to battle Travis Browne in January. Another and most intriguing replacement opportunity came from out of left field as world class kickboxer Tyrone Spong requested a chance to fight Rothwell. Spong, who now trains together with the Blackzilians at Boco Ratan, has made a name for himself as perhaps the best light heavyweight striker on the planet with a kickboxing listing of 74-7-1 with one no contest. His combined martial arts qualifications, but are a lot more sparse. Spong is now 2-0 in MMA, with two successes under the World collection of penalizing banner, even though he hasn’t fought with an MMA bout in over two decades and hasn’t competed professionally in any combat game since suffering a leg injury against Gokhan Saki 18 months ago. The biggest issue here would be cash, as I am convinced signing Spong to some UFC bargain on short notice would not come cheap. In other accident replacement information… Justin Lawrence vs Emmanuel Sanchez — Bellator 145 Regrettably, an accident to former two-time Bellator winner Pat Curran has forced him from his struggle against Justin Lawrence just over three weeks before their bout was set to happen. In steps Emmanuel Sanchez, a 25-year older fighter out of this Roufusport Gym in Milwaukee with an 11-2 record all around. Sanchez is currently 3-1 beneath the Bellator bannerlosing a decision to Curran currently and most recently picked up a split decision victory over Henry Corrales two and a half weeks ago at Bellator 143. This will surely not be a simple for battle for Sanchez, especially on short notice and with such a quick turnaround. I would expect Lawrence for a medium to heavy favorite by the time the chances are drawn upward.
