Alan Smith reminds us of his first and last appearance for England

Sky Sports’ Alan Smith reminds us of his first and last appearance for England in addition to telling us all about his performance for his country.
It was Saudi Arabia away. Because we travelled over on Concorde which was a joy in 14, I recall.
I got on as a sub and it wasn’t a performance by me. I believe we drew but I always remember Bobby Robson, that he gave a team-talk ahead and it had been moving on and on and on for some time. Don Howe, his assistant, was stood next to him and eventually Bobby turned to him and said:”Do you have anything to add, Don?” Don said:”I think we better let the lads get shifted. There is only 20 minutes until kick-off.” But that was Bobby. He loved to talk about football.
For replacing Gary Lineker from Sweden in Euro 92, that have been memorable for England I’m very well known. I got warmed up along with Alan Shearer.
Graham Taylor advised us to warm up and I got called back instead of Shearer, who was a boy . He came , although I thought I’d be going on to partner Gary, that had been my companion at Leicester back from the afternoon, I moved on.
I didn’t have the time to consider it really. I wanted to attempt to do my best, however it did not really work out.
I scored the only goal of a Qualifier at Wembley, which was. It was from Turkey and my family were up from the stand.
That I did not care and we have booed off the pitch in the old Wembley, although we didn’t play so well in the second half.
I’d got the only objective of the game for my nation to get us factors at a qualifier so that was enough.
